BLACKTHORN

Blackthorn are the North of Ireland’s most handsome and successful Folk Groups who have been enthralling audiences for more than 30 years and are still pulling them in.

The Band members are (left to right ):-
Dermot Mc Ateer – Flute and whistles
Brian Mc Ateer – Fiddle and keyboards
Eamonn O’Carroll – Drums and Percussion
Mark Johnston – Vocals and bass guitar
Gary Morgan – Vocals and acoustic guitar

Blackthorn’s success reflects their ability to adapt to the continuing changes in Irish Traditional Music and add their own special ingredient to suit whatever audience they are entertaining.

With the continuing popularity of Irish music you will see and hear Blackthorn play to appreciative audiences in a variety of venues such as Pubs, Clubs, Festivals, Corporate Functions and many a Wedding – (the couple have probably met at a previous Blackthorn show).

This year the Band were asked to perform at the prestigious Belfast Festival at Queen’s – an honor which the band readily accepted.

Blackthorn have gladly undertaken the role of musical ambassadors for Ireland to England, Scotland, USA, Canada , Germany, Belgium and Bahrain. They have worked with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board for many years in promoting the desirable qualities of Northern Ireland and enticing visitors to the province.

Blackthorn’s popularity and their ability to relate to the " student" element has seen them hold down long term residencies over the years in venues such as the Errigle Inn, Queen’s Students’ Union, The Elms, The Empire and currently Benedict’s.

Why are they so successful? It’s a complete mystery really but we’ve heard it can be summed up in one word "ENTERTAINMENT".

Blackthorn pride themselves on being able to entertain any audience, no matter what age range or musical taste. "The Boys" generate an infectious energy on stage that spreads to the audience and a good time is had by all.
